<\/a>The song has been developed by well-known local musicians Brian Cromarty and Douglas Montgomery in conjunction with pupils from the county, and will be performed with a large choir from Papdale Primary School, along with various members of young bands No Soond, Girlband and Broken Strings at the free public concert following the relay in Kirkwall.<\/p>\n
Funding for the song \u2013 and for the public concert where it will be performed \u2013 came from Creative Scotland as part of their \u2018Summer of Song\u2019 programme linked to the Olympic Torch relay.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really pleased with how it has come together,\u201d says Brian. \u201cThe brief was to reflect the Olympic ideals of unity, peace and friendship, with a flavour of Orkney.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had input from KGS Higher English students in the beginning, who contributed various themes and ideas which were invaluable in the development of the lyrics.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd now to hear all these talented young musicians interpret the music too \u2013 it\u2019s a great team effort.\u201d<\/p>\n
Douglas Montgomery said: \u201cEveryone who has been working on this project is just so excited \u2013 to be introducing a great new song about Orkney to our community is a great privilege.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo also have the chance to showcase to the rest of the UK and to the world just how intrinsic music is to life here, and the amazing depth of talent in our community, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The song will be played in public for the first time at the special open air concert as the torch arrives at the Picky Centre to light the cauldron. The performers will be joined on stage by all the Orkney torchbearers.<\/p>\n
