{"id":1200,"date":"2011-04-26T20:06:11","date_gmt":"2011-04-26T19:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spirit-of-orkney.com\/contents1a\/?p=1200"},"modified":"2011-04-26T20:06:11","modified_gmt":"2011-04-26T19:06:11","slug":"neolithic-life-not-so-peaceful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spirit-of-orkney.com\/contents1a\/2011\/04\/neolithic-life-not-so-peaceful\/","title":{"rendered":"Neolithic life not so peaceful"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Studies of skulls of Neolithic men, women and children buried in Orkney\u2019s Tomb of the Eagles, show a less peaceful life than previously thought.<\/p>\n<p>Orkneyjar, Archaeology News reports that, according to new research, skulls showed evidence of violent fatal attacks.<\/p>\n<p>At least 20 percent and possibly around 40 percent of the skulls of adults and children showed evidence of violent trauma.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peaceful life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The tranquillity of Orkney leads us all to assume that Neolithic life, although quite hard, was peaceful and serene but these findings show quite a different story with a level of cranial trauma which the archaeologists have found astounding.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThe level of cranial trauma at the Tomb of the Eagles was quite astounding.
