Neolithic Bodies in Orkney Garden

Orkney county archaeologists say that a neolithic tomb discovered in South Ronaldsay is a significant find.

A bistro owner in South Ronaldsay decided to tidy his garden and ended up finding a tomb full of 5000 year old skeletons.

The local archaeologists are having to move quickly to avoid the precious artefacts being washed away or damaged by water.

Mr Mowatt who owns the Skerries Bistro and self catering cottages, always wondered what lay beneath a large slab of stone in the garden which is not far from the Tomb of The Eagles, chambered cairn, where over 300 skulls were discovered in the 1950’s.
